Level of Difficulty:
Description:
Come learn about the Works Progress Administration and its lasting legacy in San Francisco.  We will also talk about the development of the historically-Italian neighborhood of North Beach and the significance of Telegraph Hill.  We will compare and contrast two 1930s WPA Federal Art Project gems—Coit Tower’s realist and pro-labor murals, with the Maritime Museum’s fantastical-surreal undersea “Lost Continents of  Atlantis and Mu” painted by Hilaire Hiler.   Be prepared for an uphill climb!  This program is presented in partnership with ‘Protect Coit Tower.’  RSVP: rejane_butler@nps.gov
